HERE'S HOW YOU CAN PURCHASE YOURS:
If you're interested in obtaining a specialty license plate in Alabama, contact your local DMV or license commission during regular business hours. You can also visit the Alabama Department of Revenue's website and click on "License Plate Information" followed by "Distinctive License Plates."
For those who prefer a personalized touch, a personalized license plate may be an option. These plates can be requested for most private passenger, commercial vehicles, some motorcycles, busses, campers, or antique vehicles. To obtain a personalized plate, the requested combination of letters/numbers must not conflict with the regular number system and must be approved by the State of Alabama Revenue Department.
The cost of a personalized tag is $50.00 per year in addition to the standard issuance fee and property tax assessment.
Personalized tags can be ordered at any License Commissioner office. To save time, you can check if your preferred combination is available on the Alabama Department of Revenue's website.
If your request is approved, you will have two days to complete the necessary paperwork and pay the required fees at a License Commissioner office. You will receive a registration receipt and a temporary tag, free of charge, valid for 60 days. The license plate will be manufactured and shipped directly to your address within four to five weeks.
