Celebrating the Spring 2025 Alabama Nurses Foundation Scholarship Recipients

The Alabama Nurses Foundation (ANF) is proud to announce the recipients of our Spring 2025 Nursing Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to support the next generation of nurses in their academic journey, helping to alleviate financial barriers as they pursue excellence in the nursing profession.


This spring, ANF awarded a total of 33 scholarships across three categories — LPN, undergraduate, and graduate nursing students — totaling $73,000 in funding. These scholarships support students from across Alabama and beyond who are enrolled in nursing programs that will help address the state’s growing healthcare needs.


LPN Scholarships ($2,000 each)

  • Allexis Rittenhouse – Central Alabama Community College

  • Phyllis Johnson-Watkins – University of West Alabama


Graduate Scholarships ($2,500 each)

  • Douglas Albers – Troy University

  • Kalia Cook – Auburn University at Montgomery

  • Alexus Edwards – The University of Alabama

  • Lonnitria Harvell – Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing, Samford University

  • Valerie Heinl – University of South Alabama


Undergraduate Scholarships ($2,000 each)

Twenty-six undergraduate nursing students received scholarships from institutions across Alabama including:


  • The University of Alabama at Birmingham

  • Samford University

  • Auburn University at Montgomery

  • The University of Alabama

  • The University of North Alabama

  • Troy University

  • The University of West Alabama

  • Calhoun, Jefferson State, Shelton State, Wallace State, Central Alabama, and Bevill State Community Colleges


Each student selected has demonstrated academic excellence, dedication to nursing, and a strong commitment to improving healthcare in their communities.


We extend our heartfelt congratulations to each recipient and look forward to seeing the incredible impact they will make as future leaders in nursing.
